Title: John Curtin : A Man of Peace, A Time of War
Location: Permanent home – John Curtin Centre, Perth
Exhibition Design: Rosemary Simons
Client: Australian Archives

Design Notes: The exhibition comprises of five portable, self contained rooms with audio visual programmes and showcases. Colours and materials reflect the times and the character of Curtin himself, no frills!

Two dimensional exhibits and accompanying text, mesh with the wall grid. Aluminium, ply, canvas and perspex form the material’s palette for the structures and furniture. Hand painted squares in various colours alter the mood in each room.

Client Comments: “... Roy Watkins, Regional Director of the National Archives in WA, said he liked the way the exhibition had been designed to produce an austere feel reminiscent of those war years.” (From letter from Lesley Carmen Brown. Public Programs Co-ordinator, The John Curtin Centre WA).
